Power Pack Costumes - Energizer and Massmaster

Description

I grew up reading Power Pack and it's a love I've passed to my daughter - so for last years Halloween (and a convention) I made two of the Power Pack costumes - and finally, this spring, I got decent photos of the whole ensemble, courtesy of David Ng (Photos were taken on my request and used for this purpose with permission - TO make it a little more mine, i did the collage)

to start with, I bought skin suits in our sizes. Then i cut off the hands, feet and hoods of the skin suits and sewed on the black stripe down both sides. then i bought black shirts and cut them down and sewed them on top of the skin suit. (hers took two tries because the first shirt was one i had settled on. I couldn't find plain black turtles necks. and that is reason number 1 why you can see yellow peaking up above her neckline where it shouldn't be). The symbols are painted on with Fabric Paint.

Boots were pretty hard to find, for the right shape, but I finally settled on these. Mine were ordered first and almost missed Halloween. we wore the costumes to 3 October events last year, and she was able to use the boots for each one. I was not.

Our hair is perfect (other than slight coloring to her) and was not altered in any way just to do this costume (i like short hair, she likes long!) and the size disparity, i figured was A) not that great and B) easily explained away by Jacks power - er, no pun intended! Don't you agree?

I did almost have meltdowns several times working on these costumes.

  • First, for hers, because i had to tear out the first shirt and start all over, unfortunately, the skin suit is very delicate and i ripped holes in it trying to get the other piece off, because the shirt had beautiful tight stitches that were hard to get at.

  • Second, for mine, because when i cut the hood off, before i'd fixed the zipper area, the zipper came right off and i couldn't get it back on. i had a lucky break in a friend who was able to fix it for me and before anything else could happen, i sewed the top of it so it couldn't happen again.

  • lastly, after working beautiful for the FIRST shirt on hers, when i switched to a new shirt for hers, and also for MY shirt addition, I found my sewing machine was giving me problems. i hate sewing but i keep winding up making costumes for my daughter and me for Halloween, so i persevere - however, that means i don't really understand certain things. like someone changed the needle on my machine for thick fabric and i wasn't working with thick fabrics. it was the cause of ALL my heartaches, but I got it done.....

this picture made possably my whole year a hell of a lot better, power pack is my all time fave 4 super heros (sorry franklin is not # 5 though...)  i cosplay as spiderman because a single power pack on a 20 year old man would disgrace it.. but you and your daughter doing it brings a tear yo my eye and Truly makes me happy to be alive, i revived my account on deviant art just to tell you this, thank you thank you
